Why It Matters to Your Operation

  • What goes down can't easily come back up.

Over-application, under-application, drift into protected areas or waterways, the risks of an undertrained spray tech aren't just agronomic. They're environmental, regulatory, and reputational. A certificate isn't a formality. It's your first line of defense.

  • Great turf doesn't happen by accident. It's the result of every application done right.

This program is built to make sure the person handling applications on your crew has the knowledge and confidence to be a true asset to your operation.

  • Facilities, communities, and regulators are paying closer attention. A trained spray tech is how you show your work.

Demonstrating that your team follows best management practices is increasingly important to facilities, communities, and regulators alike. A credentialed spray tech is evidence, not just intention.

What Makes It Different

Built by superintendents. For your crew.

This program was built by the people who've stood where you stand, and who know exactly what a spray tech needs to do the job right. Every unit reflects real conditions on real courses.

Turnkey. No disruption to your schedule.

Hands-on, real-world exercises your crew member completes on their own time, with your supervision. No shutting down operations or sending anyone offsite.

The only program of its kind.

No other major turfgrass organization offers a dedicated spray tech certificate. This is the standard, and you have the chance to be ahead of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the certificate designed?

The Spray Technician certificate has 10 units and a final exam. Each unit includes a combination of skills videos, webinars, quizzes and hands-on skills evaluations.

Can I do the units in any order?

Each unit within the certificate builds on the knowledge from the previous unit. Because of that, you will do the units in order.

Do I complete the Spray Technician Certificate program online?

You will watch all the videos and take the quizzes and exams online through the Learning Hub. You practice and master the skills listed on the evaluation checklists and guides on your golf course. Your supervisor (superintendent or assistant superintendent) will sign off on your evaluation checklists.

How do I submit my evaluation checklists?

In these sections of each unit, you will download and print your checklist and guide. Once you have completed those documents, scan them into a PDF or word document. Then use the assignment feature to upload your completed documents and submit them for grading.

How long will it take me to complete the certificate?

The certificate is self-paced, allowing you to take the time you need to master the concepts and skills covered. We estimate that it would take the average individual 4 to 5 months working consistently on the certificate to complete the program. But you take as much time as you need to master the skills.

Once I earn the certificate, do I need to renew it?

The Spray Technician Certificate is a certificate program, not a certification. As such, once you earn your certificate, there is no renewal requirement.

Ready to Close the Gap on Your Crew?
